Treat the skin well:
A balance of oil and moisture is crucial for healthy, attractive skin. Water in the skin sells keeps the cells plumped-up and youthful looking. The oil and moisture work together to both keep the cells plump and the oil keeps the water from evaporating. Dry skin tends to be dull looking and maybe even flakes and readily develops wrinkles and lines. Dry skin of this type usually feels tight after washing unless moisturizer is applied.
Dry skin is exacerbated by poor diet, environmental factors like sun, wind, cold, chemicals, cosmetics, excessive bathing and harsh soaps.
Primrose oil: up to 500mg a day: contains linoleic acid an essential fatty acid needed for the skin
Vitamin A: 25,000 IU daily for 3 months the 15,000 a day. Do not exceed 10,000 IU per day if you are pregnant

Calendula & comfrey have skin-softening properties. They can be used in a facial sauna or you make herbal waters. Comfrey reduces redness and soothes irritated skin.
Spray an herbal or flower water on your skin throughout the day to replenish lost water. Lavender is a great herb to try, You can make your own by adding 4 drops of essential oil to 4 ounces of distilled water, or by making an infusion of fresh lavender leaves and flowers.
Weekly facial sauna using the herbs of chamomile, lavender, and peppermint. Using a glass or enameled pot, simmer a total of 2-4 teaspoons of fresh or dried herbs in 2 quarts of water. When the pot is steaming, place it on top of a table and sit with your face a comfortable distance away over the steam for fifteen minutes. You can use a towel to trap the steam in a little tent for more intensity. You can save the water after the steam for a toner.
Green tea: makes a great facial wash. It is very soothing and cooling and is especially good for people with redness and irritation. Exfoliate 1x week:
Ground adzuki beans make a nice homemade exfoliant as well as ground lentils and tumeric.
Honey: pure honey on the face is a wonderful anti-inflamatory and softens and soothes the skin.
Walnut, apricot kernal (tao ren) and egg white: use one teaspoon of walnuts and one teaspoon of apricot kernels and blend in a coffee grinder until they are smooth. Add the mixture to one egg white and apply to a washed face. The egg white will dry and feel tight on the skin but will leave your skin feeling soft and supple.
